Fabric Care Atlas is a publication, not a service

  • We do not carry out cleaning, repair or restoration work, and we do not send anyone to your home.
  • We do not sell detergents, machines, tools or any other equipment.
  • We do not give quotes, estimates or prices for work, and we cannot recommend a contractor.

Everything here is written guidance you carry out yourself, at your own judgement. If you need work done, contact a cleaner or restorer in your own area.

If a method went wrong, name the fabric, the exact steps you followed and what happened. That is the most useful message we get, and it is what changes a guide.

What is worth writing about

  • A method that did not work, or that caused damage. Tell us the fabric, the exact steps you followed, and what happened. This is the most useful message we receive and it is the one that changes a guide fastest.
  • A factual error — a wrong temperature, a misread symbol, a product that no longer exists under that name.
  • A guide you could not find. Requests feed the editorial calendar directly.
  • Press and permissions. Short quotations with a link are fine without asking. Republishing a whole guide is not.

What we cannot help with

We cannot inspect your garment remotely, judge whether a cleaner damaged it, or act as an expert witness in a dispute. We have no way to see the item, and a guess made from a description is worth nothing to you.

We do not accept guest posts, paid links, or sponsored content, and we do not sell advertising directly. Messages offering these are deleted unread, so please save yourself the effort.

How long a reply takes

We aim to answer within five working days. If you are writing about a privacy request under the GDPR or the CCPA, say so in the first line so it is routed correctly — the privacy policy sets out what we hold and what you can ask for.
